THE NET NET Editorial Fashion Director Gabriele Hackworthy reveals three trends from the fall/winter 2013 shows to invest in now
TREND 1: REBEL REBEL With the launch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's new Costume Institute exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, the infamous movement is having a major moment once again. On the runway, Saint Laurent, Versace and Givenchy riffed on punk’s anarchic notes for their fall/winter 2013 collections. Get the look with distressed denim, slogan tees, graphic biker jackets and studded accessories. GET THE LOOK
TREND 2: BORROWED FROM THE BOYS One of the biggest trends both on and off the fall runways was menswear-inspired tailoring. The chicest editors and fashion insiders looked as if they had raided their boyfriends' closets. Think oversized masculine coats, white shirts, fedoras and velvet slippers. GET THE LOOK
TREND 3: SCARLET LADY Red was the favorite color of one of my style icons, Diana Vreeland, who said, “I can’t imagine being bored with it – it would be like becoming tired of the person you love”. It was also the standout shade of the season, from a seductive, vampish dress at Jonathan Saunders to a sharp shirt and skirt combination at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. Wear it head to toe with confidence. GET THE LOOK
ON MY STYLE RADAR NOW…SAILOR GIRL Before the cooler weather sets in, I’m planning a summer sailing trip. I’ll be taking my vacation style inspiration from screen siren Brigitte Bardot’s St-Tropez look. My packing list will include a classic Breton top (you can never have too many striped tees), cat eye sunglasses and James Read’s self tan for an instant glow. GET THE LOOK
