Our travel fantasy Diaries
No big deal or anything—okay, huge deal—but we just hired our fourth full-time employee. It is enormously exciting for so many reasons, not the least of which is: We might get to take actual vacations every now and then. The kind where we aren’t chained to our laptops. So, with summer approaching, we’ve got our heads buried in travel sites like Fathom and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, wondering just how many AMEX points it takes to get to Tokyo. Below, things we’re doing while we wait to accumulate frequent-flyer miles. —claire
P.S. Have you entered our Loverly giveaway that ends today? Or are you one of those people who doesn’t like free things?
+ Squealing over the return of David Brent, now with a guitar!
+ Making batch after batch of overnight oatmeal, which, if you ask me, is warm-weather bfast perfection. Use this Kitchen Confidante recipe as a starting point.
+ Stocking up on sunscreen. This Peter Thomas Roth mineral powder is a go-to.
+ Remembering how GD chic black sheer nylons look—ideal for in-between weather and (bonus!) sold at the drugstore.
+ Activating every craving imaginable while browsing Mouth, a site selling indie food products, packaged perfectly for gifting.
+ Admitting that half the reason I am in-the-know about anything outside of work is because I keep on top of Nora Sherman’s personal-but-still-so-servicey blog.
+ Not knowing whether to feel depressed or optimistic to learn that a price increase of 10 cents per garment would be enough to modernize factories like the one that collapsed in Bangladesh.
+ Feeling inspired by Jessi Arrington’s talk on unapologetic enthusiasm—yes, it’s long, but it gave me the courage to approach Mindy Kaling when I saw her on the street this week, which makes it totally worth it.
