Our “Be Successful” Diaries
This very special episode of “10 Things” is dedicated to my late Grandma Shirley. Those of you who have been following us since the early days know that her L.A. home has served as Of a Kind’s West Coast headquarters—and also that she was equal parts adorable, hilarious, and well, magical. Some other things Grandma Shirley would want you to know about her: She was a talented and prolific painter, she woke up every morning at the crack of dawn to walk 4 miles up the hills of the Santa Monica Mountains, she owned an iPhone long before either Erica or I did, and every time we’d leave her house to go to a meeting she’d command of us: “Be successful!” Well, we plan to follow her orders. It seems like the best possible way to honor her. —claire

+ Thinking these awe-inspiring paper birds make origami cranes look like downright child’s play.
+ Fueling the fire of my Orange is the New Black obsession with this article about the real-life Piper (who knew it was based on a true story?!) and these pretty posters that pay tribute to the inmates.
+ Realizing I have put at least three different New Yorker satire pieces on this list...but throwing my hands up and making it four because this take on the Jeff Bezos/Washington Post deal is hilarious.
