Give A Ballet-Infused Workout A Try

Next on our fitness class list is a ballet infused workout. These workouts have become increasingly popular amongst non-dancers and experienced dancers alike. A ballet infused workout combines principles of dance conditioning with aerobics so you not only burn fat while sculpting lean muscles, but you also improve coordination and endurance.

Our Danskin volunteer, who happens to have absolutely no ballet training, was forced to call on her inner dancer at this week’s fitness class challenge. Although she was nervous, she was a good sport about it and embraced the ballet barre with open arms.

What to Expect:

Expect a strength building workout that targets muscles through high reps of small movements for 60 minutes. People of all different dance backgrounds can take the class together so it can be a little intimidating. However, most instructors will modify each move to make the exercise beginner-friendly or more challenging depending on your level of experience. Our Danskin team member described the class as, “Dance meets super toning. I was sore the next day and the day after that because of the repetition of small but impactful movements targeting my arms, abs, butt and legs on and off the ballet barre.”


Intense. You’re definitely not gasping for breath during this class, however there is a struggle to keep up with the class and do all of the reps. Exercises that focus on body sculpting like squat pulses, for example can be extremely challenging, especially after a few repetitions. According to our Danskin volunteer, you REALLY feel the burn.

Sweat Level:

Medium. Although you’re not dripping sweat the entire time like a cardio-oriented class, the class is still high impact and all the repetitions will definitely warm you up.


Since you’re moving around a lot during a ballet infused workout, make sure you wear comfortable clothing that is not restricting but still provides coverage. We recommend a seamless bra that supports but has a barely-there feel. Bike shorts or leggings with a higher rise are the preferred bottom and provide the same comfort and coverage for all stretches and repetitions. Also, most people wear socks when they take the class, but you may find yourself slipping especially when standing on one leg. Our sling-back dance socks are the perfect alternative!
