Rubin&Chapelle Malibu is pleased to present recent work of artist Mia Enell from January - June. A drawing and the painting it inspired are on view at each entrance of the Malibu store to welcome visitors. Rubin&Chapelle NYC exhibited Mia Enell’s ‘Peace in Flux’ paintings in 2011.

Mia Enell (b.1967, Gothenburg, Sweden) is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in painting and drawing as well as photography, video, installation, and sculpture. Although she makes use of different media, Enell approaches her work with the internal logic of a painter.

Mia sees her work as a response to her inner world and also as a meditation on the external environment. She is best known for her paintings, watercolors, and drawings depicting the eccentricities of her inner life, often with humor and a surrealist bent. Haiku-like phrases - inspired by dreams or drawn from the unconscious are part of the work or serve as titles. Her wordplay is a prominent feature in many of her works.

Rubin&Chapelle has always kept close ties to the art community. Many of our colleagues and friends are artists, and we see an interchangeable dialogue between both disciplines as a reflection of our surroundings.

Enell’s work is represented in major international public and private collections including Caisse des Depots et Consignation, Paris;  FNAC - Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, Paris;  Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); Statens Konstråd, National Public Art Agency, Stockholm;  Collection Teto Ahrenberg, Switzerland; Kika Borghese Collection, New York and Rome.

Rubin&Chapelle collections have been exhibited in the MAK Museum in Vienna, Museum of Arts and Design in NYC, and The Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology. Their garments are part of the Chicago Arts Institute Collection as well the FIT Museum Collection.

Rubin & Chapelle has collaborated with contemporary artists Marcel Odenbach, Gregory Coates, Semjon H.N. Semjon, Berta Fischer, Steven Rose, Joseph Montgomery, and Kara Walker.

Rubin&Chapelle has exhibited artists including: Gregory Coates, Wolfgang Stiller, Hermes Payrhuber, Mia Enell, Stefan Reiterer, Axel Koschier, Atalay Yavuz, Kottie Paloma, Steven Rose, Joseph Montgomery, and Edmundo de Marchena.
