Hey -

This weekend gone is quite possibly the biggest weekend of the year for me as its a bit of a birthday bonanza with it being my husband's birthday yesterday and my daughter's today.

On the last Sunday of the month I host a Journalling Gathering in my Root + Rise membership.

That was also yesterday. 🤪

At about 3am on Sunday morning I woke with a start, suddenly remembering the early evening dinner reservations and the scheduling clash of birthdays and work commitments.

All of the negative self talk came up…"What will they (my members) think of me?", "When will I get my shit together'. "Why am I so incompetent?".

I mean, we could have a field day just dissecting those thoughts, right!

If I"d realised even 24 hours before I would have felt fine but the last mintue-ness of it felt all consuming in that moment.

I trusted I"d figure it out and promptly fell back to sleep before waking in the morning and writing an email entitled "I made a boo boo".

Explaining what had happened, apologising for it and saying…. 'I hope you see and understand that making scheduling mistakes like this aren't something I do often and also they do happen and that's ok too because that's what it means to be a business owner and more than that a human."

In writing that out I realised the most powerful thing of all was the opportunity to demonstrate in real time what it means to work and live wholeheartedly.

To centre wellness.

Make mistakes.

Be human.

Take ownership.

This was me living out loud my message and its not neat and tidy but its real, true.

And its sometimes often uncomfortable to be modelling the antithesis to what the systems and our own internalised stories have told us is the "right' way.

What the systems have taught us to expect from others and ourselves.

These Amazon Prime like standards of order today and receive a few hours later.

These industry created glossy images of success.

These ways of hijacking what it means to be professional into multiple versions of perfection.

The "no space to never not be an A+".

In a fair, equitable and just society we know that things cannot run like that.

Yet there are parts of us expecting that from ourselves.

So rather than being told its ok to be human in work (and life) we need more people showing it too.

I received the most wonderful responses from my members and this one really made me smile.

"Hi lovely, This is quite possibly the most wonderful reminder that we"re human AND that we get to choose family and life. I hope you have a wonderful time tonight.xx"

I will never stop sharing that your wholehearted self is more than enough and I"m committed to showing you too.

So whether concisely or unconsciously I hope me sharing this story has helped you to go a little easier on yourself.

Accept yourself more and allow yourself more grace to be the wholehearted human that you are.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Sending love,

Nicola X x
