Hi ACLU Supporter

Across the country, transgender people are fighting for the right to use public spaces. From restrooms to locker rooms to serving in the military it's a battle for trans people just to exist.

The Trump administration and other anti-LGBT advocates are trying to turn back the clock on trans rights, but they've got a big fight coming: This week we're in court defending trans rights in Montana, Pennsylvania, and Oregon. It's just a glimpse of the fight we face nationwide as we head into the 2018 midterm elections, when all our rights will be on the line.

Pledge to be an ACLU Voter and fight for our rights in November. We'll send you candidate scorecards on LGBT rights and other critical issues, and keep you in the loop on registration deadlines, polling locations you name it.

Anti-LGBT advocates are bullying and shaming trans people even children out of using the most basic public spaces we all depend on to go about our daily lives. In all three of our cases this week, we're defending transgender people's right to use public facilities like restrooms and locker rooms just like everyone else. One of our clients, Acton Siebel of Missoula, Montana, shares:

"I spent a good chunk of my life worrying and living in fear of how people would perceive me as being a trans person. Living in fear that I might be hurt, that I might be verbally or physically assaulted, or that I might be murdered... The thought of someone trying to legislate my right to a public accommodation makes me want to fight even more."

Trans people like Acton are some of the most marginalized and vulnerable people in this country and when they're attacked, it makes me even more committed to fight in 2018. We have to vote like our rights depend on it because for many of us right now, our rights are on the line.

ACLU Supporter, we need to bring our A-game this fall to make sure our country upholds trans rights. Pledge to be an ACLU Voter and we'll equip you with all the information and tools necessary to ensure we elect public officials with our values values that protect the civil rights and liberties of everyone.

This week, we're fighting in the courtroom. And in November, we'll be fighting at the ballot box to take back our democracy and humanity.

Thanks for your support,

Faiz Shakir
