If you want to break with family tradition this year, wait until the Monday before Thanksgiving to try and pick up your turkey. There's a good chance you'll be out of luck and looking up tofurkey recipes.

Last year, I headed out on that Monday to pick up my turkey not realizing I should probably have packed an overnight bag. By afternoon I had hit 5 grocery stores with nary a turkey to be found. Were people hoarding turkeys along with the toilet paper and paper towels? Finally at the 6th store I found my bird. It was the last one left so I quickly stuffed it under my coat and ran to the check out lane before anyone else realized. As I got to the car my phone messages told me my guest list had dwindled to 4. My dilemma then was to figure out how to deal with a 30lb bird. Leftovers anyone?
