February 20, 2019 NEW Product News AMT Textbook and FAA Handbook Image Downloads The AMT Graphics Textbook Images from the Dale Crane Series (ASA-AMT-GRAFX-5), and the FAA AMT Graphics Handbook Images (ASA-8083-AMT-GX) are now available for download. These PowerPoint® slides make it easy for instructors to create their own custom multi-media presentations to teach the principles the students are reading in the texts. Each image slide is categorized and labeled to make them easy to identify and locate on the CD. They can be viewed collectively as a slideshow, or inserted as individual slides in a presentation. The AMT Graphics Textbook Images Download contains all the illustrations and figures from the Aviation Maintenance Technician Series textbooks by Dale Crane. Over 2,000 full-color slides are included from the General, Airframe (Structures & Systems), and Powerplant subject textbooks in the AMT Series. The FAA AMT Handbook Images Download includes all the figures from the FAA Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbooks. Over 3,000 slides are included from the General (FAA-H-8083-30A), Airframe Volumes 1 and 2 (FAA-H-8083-31A), and Powerplant Volumes 1 and 2 (FAA-H-8083-32A). Sign up for FAR Updates Current through February 19, 2019 FAR AIM Current through February 15, 2019 FAR AMT Current through August 15, 2018 FAR FC Drone Operations: Changes to Part 48 The FAA has issued a change to 14 CFR Part 48: Registration and Marking Requirements for Small Unmanned Aircraft. Effective February 23, 2019, unmanned aircraft subject to this part must have a unique identifier "...readily accessible and visible upon inspection of the small unmanned aircraft. A unique identifier enclosed in a compartment is readily accessible if it can be accessed without the use of any tool." If you have already registered your drone, be sure it complies with this new regulation prior to the effective date. If you have not yet registered your drone, you can find out more about how to do that here at FAA.gov. This change is included in the latest FAR AIM update from ASA found at asa2fly.com/farupdate. Watch it Now! ASA Conference and Trade Show News NGPA Winter Warm Up a Huge Success! The NGPA Winter Warm Up and Industry Expo took place in Palm Springs, February 8-10. Airline interviews, educational presentations, and a spectacular banquet on Saturday evening were among the highlights. Congratulations to Ricardo Cisneros of Whittier, California for guessing closest to the number of Skittles in this glass pilots head. His guess earned him a new ASA AirClassics HS-1A Headset and a Headset Bag to go along with it. Northwest Aviation Conference and Tradeshow ASA will be exhibiting at the Northwest Aviation Conference and Tradeshow this weekend in Puyallup, WA. On Saturday, February 23rd, at 2:15 PM in the Keynote Area of the exhibit hall, Amy L. Hoover and R.K. "Dick" Williams will give a presentation on their upcoming book Mountain, Canyon, and Backcountry Flying. The authors will share tips from their new book, which includes fundamental concepts to prepare for and conduct backcountry flights, including airport operations, situational awareness, aircraft performance, risk management, emergency operations, and more. Come to the ASA booth (624-625)after the presentation to visit with the authors and ask questions. Learn more about this book. On Sunday, February 24th at 2:30 in the Keynote Area, Amy L. Hoover will present Surviving the Unexpected: Human Factors of a Mid-air Collision. Hear Amys personal story of how attitude and training helped her to land successfully and facilitate her own rescue after her airplane was disabled in a mid-air collision over a remote mountainous area. She will share strategies to help mitigate risk in such an incident, and what pilots might experience after surviving a traumatic event.
