How long does a sunburn last?

A sunburn is actually only the visible symptom of much deeper damage. If your skin has become pink (or red!), that means your skin has already been impacted by UVA and UVB rays for much too long. Now that the burn is here, what does it mean, and how long will it last?

For mild sunburns, you can expect redness and pain for roughly three to five days, and mild peeling toward the end as your skin regenerates.
Soothing Relief Gel is great for use on mild sunburns.

Moderate sunburns will have more pain, and some swelling and heat along with redness. A moderate sunburn will take closer to a week to heal, with peeling for a few days after that. Soothing Relief Gel may also be used on moderate sunburns.

A severe sunburn may call for a doctor visit. Severe sunburns are very painful, may blister, and will take up to two weeks to heal. You may struggle to wear clothing, bathe, or even sleep if your sunburn is very severe.

Many things affect the average healing time of each type of sunburn, including skin tone, what time of day you were in the sun, high altitudes, and certain medications.

You should always call your doctor right away if you have a fever along with your sunburn, or if you have symptoms of shock, dehydration, and heat exhaustion which include feeling faint, chills, confusion, rapid pulse, and nausea or vomiting.
