If there’s one email you should always be sending no matter what, it’s the welcome email.

That’s a bold statement. But it’s true.

Welcome emails get unusually high open rates – sometimes higher than 90 percent. They also attain above-average click-through rates as well.

And because they’re automated, you can set them up once in your list so they’ll automatically send to your new subscribers.

If you don’t have a welcome email set up right now, you’re missing out on all of that increased engagement!

There are 6 things you should do in your welcome email:
  1. Thank and welcome your new subscribers
  2. Deliver your sign up form incentive (if you offered one)
  3. Tell people what content they’ll be getting from you
  4. Get people excited about being on your list
  5. Introduce your company and what you stand for
  6. Ask them to whitelist you (this improves email deliverability!)

Take action! Here’s your homework:

  • Brainstorm and write down the benefits of being subscribed to your list. Consider this: What will a subscriber get out of being on your list? How will it help them? (5 minutes)
  • Choose the welcome email template from the What to Write guide that best fits your needs. (1 minute)
  • Create a welcome email (as an autoresponder or automated email campaign) in your email marketing platform. Paste the template content into the email. (5 minutes)
  • Fill in the blanks in the template with your own content. Be sure to include the benefits that you brainstormed in step 1. (5 minutes)
  • Turn the email on so that new subscribers will automatically receive it. (1 minute)
