Sometimes dry skin and foundation just don’t seem to mix. Here’s how to get it right, from prep to products to application.
Skincare. A gentle cleanser and moisturizer twice a day, plus a hydrating mask three times weekly will give skin the TLC it needs.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Moussant Sans Savon, $20
Bliss Triple Oxygen + C Energizing Cream, $55
Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial, $48
Find your foundation. According to Derek Selby, International Director of Artistry at Cover FX, there’s one ingredient dry types should avoid in foundation: talc. Why? “It looks dry and chalky, and absorbs moisture.”

Application. After moisturizing, see if there’s still flakiness; if so Selby suggests then applying a primer with hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture. Follow with foundation using a flat brush for less friction.
