Getting Out of a Slump

YOUR ACCOUNT SNOOKER CUES TABLES ACCESSORIES Getting Out of a Slump Hi there, September is the month where many of the local leagues in the UK start back up again. Other Countries may be the same I am not too sure - perhaps you can let me know. Some of you will have taken the summer off completely from playing snooker or pool, whereas I know some of you will be year round players. But, how do we come back after that time away and hit the ground running? This weeks email will look at 9 ways to get back into the game or to get yourself out of a slump. Your Equipment Clean - Get your cue back out of its case in advance of your first fixture. Give it a thorough clean. A slightly damp cloth or even some plain paper can really help give it that extra boost. Joint - If your cue has a joint then dirt and hand oils can get into the threads. This can make the cue loosen at times when it shouldn't. Use a small amount of white spirit on a cloth and work into into the threads to clean them up. Always try and wipe any excess. Tip - Probably the most important part of the cue but often neglected, especially over and extended hiatus. Check it over properly, shape it, break up the fibres on the top if it has glazed and then chalk it. If it looks a bit ropey then now is the time to change it. Chalk and Accessories - Got a sorry piece of chalk sitting in your case? Lacking a tip file? Then get them now before you start the season. Your Game Stance - When back at the table make sure to go back to a relaxed and solid stance. Grip - One thing I find a lot of times when coming back to the game is I am holding the cue too tight. Loosen that grip to play a bit more fluid. Stroke - Hit right through the ball, don't get snatchy on the shot. Practice - If you are not going to put a few hours in ahead of a match then at least arrive early and hit a few balls in a lineup. This gets you used to the table and also helps to loosen you up a bit. Beer - If all else fails go and buy another pint! Let me know how your season has started, if it has. Until next week, Pete Pool Tables If you are thinking of a pool table for a Christmas gift or have a birthday coming up within the next 3 months then please get table orders in early. Getting Out of a Slump

Hi there,

September is the month where many of the local leagues in the UK start back up again.

Your Equipment

  • Clean - Get your cue back out of its case in advance of your first fixture. Give it a thorough clean. A slightly damp cloth or even some plain paper can really help give it that extra boost.
  • Joint - If your cue has a joint then dirt and hand oils can get into the threads. This can make the cue loosen at times when it shouldn't. Use a small amount of white spirit on a cloth and work into into the threads to clean them up. Always try and wipe any excess.
  • Tip - Probably the most important part of the cue but often neglected, especially over and extended hiatus. Check it over properly, shape it, break up the fibres on the top if it has glazed and then chalk it. If it looks a bit ropey then now is the time to change it.
  • Chalk and Accessories - Got a sorry piece of chalk sitting in your case? Lacking a tip file? Then get them now before you start the season.

Your Game

  • Stance - When back at the table make sure to go back to a relaxed and solid stance.
  • Grip - One thing I find a lot of times when coming back to the game is I am holding the cue too tight. Loosen that grip to play a bit more fluid.
  • Stroke - Hit right through the ball, don't get snatchy on the shot.
  • Practice - If you are not going to put a few hours in ahead of a match then at least arrive early and hit a few balls in a lineup. This gets you used to the table and also helps to loosen you up a bit.
  • Beer - If all else fails go and buy another pint!

Let me know how your season has started, if it has.

Until next week,

Pete
