The ancient Egyptian culture began 5000 years ago.  The population across the globe was approximately 50 million people....  And, those people wore jewelry.

Although the clothing of the Ancient Egyptians was simple and plain, they made up for it with elaborate jewelry. Both men and women wore lots of jewelry including heavy bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. One popular item of jewelry was the neck collar. Neck collars were made of bright beads or jewels and were worn on special occasions.

Interestingly the ANKH, one of the most famous symbols that have endured from this ancient civilization, wasn't really worn as jewelry.  The antique piece below is littered with symbols none of which is an ankh.  The scarab was more favored during the 3000 year period.

The meaning behind the ankh symbol hasn't changed in these thousands of years since its inception.  It still is widely known to represent life.  Yet, now it is worn as a piece of jewelry.

Our FORTUNE ankhs (above/below) is our most detailed ankh design.

One very plausible reason why the ankh became a modern piece of jewelry might be its adoption as a christian symbol for Coptic Egyptians.  The Coptics are Christians and direct descendants of the ancient Egyptians.  Looking at a traditional crucifix in its design one can see the proportions are very close. (our ABBOT CROSS, below, is on SALE right now)

Yet for many who now wear an ankh it is not a religious symbol any longer.  Smaller sized ANKH pendants are often worn with other symbols and talismans to bring fortune, health, meaning, and other important thoughts in a visually powerful way.

Our ATTERA ankh (above/below) is small enough in scale that it can be worn easily with another pendant

As a final note.... In our research we obviously found out who some of the most famous Coptic Christians are.  Its not a long list as its such a small population.  The name we recognized immediately was Rami Malek who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.  AND, Rami has a twin brother named Sami.  We have yet to find out if either of them wear an ANKH...

Also, new on the site is the CINTRA cross.  At 45mm long and 10mm thick this piece feels fairly big.  It also has a large bail designed to accommodate an 8mm chain.  Its all solid 316L stainless steel construction is highlighted by the precision parts that are hand finished and hand assembled.  If you like a bigger piece this might be the one.  The silver, black and gold finishes will go with just about anything...
