2001-P Capitol Visitor Silver Dollar
Gem Uncirculated

Only 35,380 ever minted
On December 6, 1999 Congress authorized the minting of commemorative coins in recognition of the U. S. Capitol Visitor Center, construction of which was planned to start the following year at the Capitol's East Plaza and be completed in 2005. Only 35,380 were minted making it one of the lowest mintage silver coins ever released from the Mint!

The obverse features perspective views of the visitor center in the foreground and the Capitol in the distance. The reverse of this coin has a Heraldic Eagle eerily similar to the Silver Eagle reverse, which is understandable since they were both designed by John Mercanti! A difference is that draped across the eagle is a banner reading "U.S. CAPITOL VISITOR CENTER." Other coins with a mintage this small go for the big bucks! This is an important commemorative for American History buffs to have, especially at this price!

Highlights:
  • 90% Silver Commemorative
  • Reverse designed by John Mercanti
  • Limited mintage
