The heat has arrived in Oklahoma, but we’re keeping it cool at the Ballroom with air conditioning (can you believe this venue spent its first 78 years without it?) and an incredible summer lineup. We’re honored this month to be on the cover of the most recent issue of Oklahoma Today. If you’re not yet a subscriber, you can find a copy at various retail locations across the state.
As we continue celebrating our centennial, we’ve added another free show to the calendar. Please join us for Hot Club of Cowtown (7/25) and raise a glass to 100 years. We wish all of you a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July holiday and a summer full of music!

June kicked off with an absolutely amazing sold-out show with Led Zeppelin frontman, Robert Plant, and 27-Grammy-award-winning bluegrass artist, Alison Krauss (6/2). Tulsa’s own JD McPherson opened the show before joining them in their band! We were thrilled to host the first date on their Can’t Let Go Tour. If you missed the show, you can read a review by Paul Dominy in Americana UK.
What can we say about our unforgettable concert with, Chappell Roan (6/5)? Fans were lined up for blocks well before door time, and the Midwest Princess (she’s from neighboring Willard, MO, pop. 6,344) proved she’s one of the brightest new stars performing right now. Read Z.B. Reeves’ review of her Cain’s show here. Check out her performance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” here.
Oklahoman Corey Kent celebrated his 30th birthday with us on the first night of his two sold-out shows (6/21 & 22). We’re looking forward to his next stop at Cain’s. Barron Ryan’s There Arises Light in the Darkness album release concert (6/27) was a very special evening. Ryan’s moving composition commemorates the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. Texas country with Wade Bowen (6/28) and an evening of 90s hits with Fayetteville’s Dial Up (6/29) closed out the month.

The Bob Dylan Center is our co-presenter for The Baseball Project (7/11), featuring members of R.E.M, the Dream Syndicate and the Minus 5. Here’s an excerpt from an interesting interview with band member Steve Wynn from Jimmie Tramel of the Tulsa World.
What was your personal gateway to loving baseball — was it a favorite team or a favorite player? “I grew up in L.A. and did a song about this. One of our songs (on the second album) is called ‘Fair Weather Fans.’ We’ve all moved around a lot, so several members of band — myself, Linda, Scott — like multiple teams. We lived in multiple cities. “But I grew up in L.A., watching the Dodgers and just kind of going to games and following the game. I was primarily a music fan — a musician, a rocker — and baseball was secondary. And my approach to baseball was always similar to my approach to music, where I look for the oddballs and the characters, the counterculture misfits and things like that. And that was more exciting to me than just rah, rah, rah. I wasn’t like a pennant-waving, my-team-or-die kind of person. I just like the weird history of the game.

Traffic fans don’t want to miss Dave Mason’s “Traffic Jam,” an evening of classics and deep cuts (7/18). Platinum-selling Texas band Uncle Lucius (7/19) brings its brand of amped up Americana to the Ballroom, touring behind Like It’s the Last One Left.
