Every time Creative Director Tyler Riewer travels for charity: water, he sends a series of email updates home to family and friends. This time, for our first creative trip in nearly two years, he wanted to share an update with all of you.
Tyler and a small team traveled to Uganda this past September to revisit Helen Apio’s community. We first met Helen 12 years ago while checking up on our water projects in northern Uganda. Helen’s story and her spirit moved us so much that she instantly became part of charity: water history.
Sadly, Helen is no longer with us. But her legacy only continues to grow—as does her community. What was once a rural home to hundreds is now a bustling center of commerce. We could hardly believe what we found when we arrived.
Keeping clean water flowing is just as important as getting it started. Our remote sensors empower communities to trust that if—and when—a repair is needed, it will happen quickly and efficiently.
After two years of research and development and more than 10,000 hours of engineering time, the first-ever sensor for the India Mark II hand pump is in production. The first shipment of devices is on its way to Uganda, where 20 local organizations are trained and ready to install them to protect water flow in communities like Helen’s.
Help a loved one stay warm and cozy in our charity: water sweatshirt, or top off a gift with our Jerry Can beanie! We recommend ordering as soon as possible to avoid any potential shipping delays.
Want to avoid shipping all together? Give the gift of clean water in honor of a loved one. With customizable cards that you can email or print, it’s a high-impact, low-stress gift.
This holiday season, we’ll share more about Helen and her community. Our focus will be on families—the ones that we’re born into, and, like Helen’s, the ones we choose and create by investing in the lives of others.
Thank you for being part of our charity: water family. We can’t wait to celebrate this special season with you.
