Our local partners are in the driver's seat
(Sometimes, literally.)
charity: water exists to bring clean and safe water to people in need, so it can be easy to assume that we’re the ones doing the work on the ground. But the truth is that we’ve probably drilled about as many wells as you have.

Our local implementing partners are, and always have been, the real heroes. They take your generous donations and turn them into clean water solutions for communities around the world.
Things We do Things our local partners do

We believe that sustainable work is locally-led. Our local partners have a community-centered approach and a thorough understanding of how to implement water projects in their area. It would be impossible for us to have the decades of nuanced knowledge our partners possess about the regions in which they work.

This is why we don’t offer volunteer opportunities in the field, or have any of charity: water’s full-time employees stationed in the countries where we work. We trust the professionals we partner with to do their jobs far better than we ever could! Our role is to support them by spreading the word and funding their work.

While each of our partners has a unique approach to their work, they all share our vision of ending the water crisis and work closely with local communities, leaders, governments, mechanics, and suppliers to accomplish lasting change.

From household BioSand Filters implemented by Clear Cambodia to miles-long piped systems constructed by Water for People Rwanda, our partners take existing water sources, terrain, and population into account when choosing the best solution for each community. And it’s not just about providing safe water access to communities in need—they also ensure that communities receive comprehensive sanitation and hygiene education to promote everyone’s long-term health.

100% of your donation funds clean water—which means 100% of what you give funds the incredible work you’re reading about right now. And for less than what you might spend each month on coffee or a TV subscription, you can commit to building a better world alongside our local partners as a member of our monthly giving community, The Spring.

Gram Vikas, India

Gram Vikas specializes in piped water systems. They are currently working in Odisha state, where access to improved water and sanitation services remains low. Their systems bring water directly into households and include a tap in the kitchen, bathroom, and shower. Schools are also connected into the piped system.

Gram Vikas uses an integrated approach to educate communities on everything from personal hygiene to safe food storage. They also require every household to build their own toilet and bathroom before they begin work on a piped system.

Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve funded 3,801 projects with Gram Vikas that will serve 56,518 people!
