The Woodson Houses Killings

Email sent: Oct 12, 2021 5:01pm
The one story you should read today, selected by the editors of New York.

When police opened the door of apartment 6M at 393 Powell Street in Brooklyn, they didn’t think anything was suspicious about the woman lying in a pool of blood. Her home in NYCHA’s Woodson Houses for senior citizens wasn’t ransacked, and there were no signs of forced entry, so cops chalked up her death to an elderly person’s slip-and-fall. Except it wasn’t the cause: She had been fatally stabbed. When residents learned what really happened, they asked for help, but their pleas went unanswered as more neighbors were slain. In New York’s new cover story, Greg Donahue investigates the catastrophic errors and neglect that led an alleged serial killer to prey on a single building for years.
