Hello and welcome back to Declutter FastΒ

Sometimes we get rid of things that we THINK we cannot fix.

We have forgotten about what people did in the "old days"!

Example: good old mending.

When is the last time you heard of anyone "darning socks"?

Socks are a dime a dozen now - they're everywhere. Maybe you don't care about darning socks. I get it.

But what about that cashmere sweater?

I have a beautiful black cashmere sweater.

I bought it at a thrift store. And it's lovely. And it's cashmere. Did I mention that... yes.

Well... naturally I wear it as often as possible...Β Β

For more years than I can remember... so eventually it started to show signs of wear.Β Β

My eagle-eyed daughters said, "Mom, did you know there is a hole in your sweater?"

I said, "I don't care." Which tells you a lot about my fashion sense or lack thereof.

I wasn't going to let go of my favorite sweater. I've been living in a hot climate and I hardly ever got to wear it anyway!!

But eventually even I had to admit that the holes in the sweater were rather noticeable to the point that I had to stop wearing my favorite sweater.

And sigh, I was going to have to let it go.

Or not!!

I stumbled on to the old-fashioned idea that this sweater was indeed keepable.

What would my great aunt have done? My grandmother? Why they would have mended that sweater by darning it.

Darn it, yes, darn it. Old-fashioned word. Old-fashioned way of fixing a great classic timeless sweater.

Now you may be thinking, Mimi dear, do I know how to DARN? Or do I even want to?

Well, I don't know how to "darn" either. I have heard of "darning eggs" so I have some clue how it works....

But not knowing how to "darn" a sweater or your favorite comforter or afghan...

That's where the old days and the NOW days meet.

It's called YouTube.

Whatever you want to know how to do, they have a video about how to do it. Cost: zero. Value: priceless.

So that's what I'm going to do. The internet will teach me everything I need to know about darning. The message here is:

Almost EVERY item that you do want to save - can be saved.

That means with a little "elbow grease" - also known as "effort" - you can spend some time fixing something...

And you do not have to spend your hard-earned cashola to get a new one.

That's what I'm discovering. I have another story on this to tell you soon too.

So don't think you have to throw out things that you really, really love.

They may be fixable!!

You know, it's so nice to wake up and see things completely in order and right where you need them.

It's even nicer to not have that much stuff - your brain hurts when you have too much stuff.

You can start now to whittle things down! Fast!

Let Declutter Fast Show You
