Alex Ikonn: Gratitude Video

In this short IGTV video, founder of the Five Minute Journal Alex Ikonn talks about transforming his life through gratitude. While engaged to Mimi, his mother came to him asking for money to help pay her rent. Not being able to help her, Alex decided it was time for a change. With a sharpie in hand, he wrote affirmations like, “I will always create abundance in my life”. Those affirmations have become the reality of Alex’s life today. This video is an inspirational reminder of the power we have to start living more abundant, fulfilled lives.

Seth Godin, author of 18 best-selling books on business, leadership, marketing, and personal achievement, says “the person who fails the most wins.” While he’s extremely open to failing—because it means you’ve learned something new—he’s also aware of how easily people can get stuck because of it. In an interview with Tim Ferriss, he explains the failure trap people commonly fall in and what to do to get out of it: 

“Those of us who are lucky enough to live in a world where we have enough and we have a roof and we have food - we find ourselves caught in this cycle of keeping track of the wrong things.

Keeping track of how many times we’ve been rejected. Keeping track of how many times it didn’t work. Keeping track of all the times someone has broken our heart or double-crossed us or let us down.

Of course, we can keep track of those things, but why? Why keep track of them? Are they making us better?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to keep track of the other stuff? To keep track of all the times it worked? All the times we took a risk? All the times we were able to brighten someone else’s day?

When we start doing that, we can redefine ourselves as people who are able to make an impact on the world. It took me a bunch of cycles to figure out that the narrative was up to me.

If the narrative isn’t working, well then, really, why are you using it? The narrative isn’t done to you; the narrative is something that you choose. Once we can dig deep and find a different narrative, then we ought to be able to change the game.”

Good News Of The Week

In need of extra help due to the Australian wildfires, Port Macquarie Koala Hospital created a GoFundMe page asking for $25,000 in donations. They surpassed their request and ended up receiving over $1 million to help rehabilitate injured wildlife. To help them further, a dutch quilting community has sewn 400 mittens for koalas in need.
