For more than 150 years, Juneteenth has been a celebration of freedom, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, a Union general carried out the order in the final state.
But it wouldn’t be until just last year that Juneteenth would become a federal holiday, making it the first new federal holiday in nearly four decades.
