21 March is World Down Syndrome Day, a global awareness day that encourages people from all the world to come together to help raise public awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.
The theme for 2019 is Leave No One Behind and it is a pledge to overcome the prevailing negative attitudes, low expectations, discrimination and exclusion that puts people with Down syndrome at a disadvantage. It is our hope and that of the greater community that there is greater awareness and understanding about Down syndrome and persons with Down syndrome.
As part of the day, we would like to encourage you to show your support by wearing your most brightly coloured and unique socks as a conversation piece to help increase awareness about Down Syndrome and to tell the world to “leave no one behind”. Post a photo of your colourful socks on your social media channels with the hashtags #WorldDownSyndromeDay #WDSD19 #LeaveNoOneBehind.
