Introducing a new way to invest in clean energy innovation
By Bill Gates | July 13, 2021
In my latest Gates Notes post, I write about a new way to invest in innovation that will help the world get to net-zero carbon emissions. It’s called Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, and the idea is to create a way for governments, companies, and philanthropists to invest now in clean technologies that will help the world avoid a climate disaster.
Many of today’s clean energy solutions are way too expensive to reach the scale we need. To get massive adoption, we need to drive down their prices dramatically—the way the price of a microwave oven has dropped 92 percent since the first one was introduced in the 1950s. Catalyst is designed to help spark the virtuous cycle of innovation, declining prices, and rising adoption.
I’m excited about this new project and hope you’ll take a minute to read more about it.
Thank you for being an Insider!
