Tech executives will soon have a new direct flight option from Seattle to Bangalore thanks to a West Coast alliance between Alaska Airlines and American Airlines.

Both Amazon and Microsoft, based in the Seattle region, have offices in Bangalore, one of India’s biggest tech hubs. The new flight will launch this October, with purchases available starting next month. It’s the first-ever direct option from Seattle to Bangalore. Read the story.

Jeff Bezos is the reported buyer of more prime real estate. The Amazon CEO just dropped a record $165 million on a 13,600-square-foot Georgian-style mansion in Beverly Hills.

Meanwhile, in Amazon’s hometown of Seattle, councilmember Kshama Sawant introduced a new “Amazon Tax” that would implement a 1.7 percent tax on the payroll of Seattle’s 825 largest businesses. Sawant estimates it would raise $300 million annually for affordable public housing and environmental objectives.

Real cash: More than 25 years after he founded RealNetworks, CEO Rob Glaser is personally investing $10 million into the digital media pioneer as it makes a major pivot into facial recognition technology. We caught up with him on the phone this morning to find out more.

Startup funding: Madrona Venture Group led a $7.6 million investment round for Esper, a Seattle-area B2B startup led by former Amazon and Microsoft leaders that helps customers manage fleets of company-owned Android devices.
