If you drive into the mountains in winter, you should always have snow chains in your luggage compartment.
In many Alpine countries they are even required by law. But how does it actually work with the snow chains? Snow chains are to be mounted on the wheels of the drive axle. Here the chain lays over the treads and prevents the tyres from spinning. The metal links of the snow chain slide between the ground and the rubber of the tyre, creating a resistance that drives the car.
