City Guides App – now with LA!

Today, after much research and pounding of the pavement, we proudly bring you our goop Los Angeles City Guide, now available in the App Store. Included are all of our favorite spots across the board, from restaurants to bars, shops, beauty, culture, health, places for kids and much more. Check out all my carefully-curated insider stuff in the app, and a teaser of our favorite places from the guide below.

Goop's Los Angeles City Guide is Here!

Our new Los Angeles guide is now available within
the goop City Guides app in the App Store!

Included in the price, ($3.99), the goop City Guides app comes pre-loaded with guides to New York, London and Los Angeles. Each guide is filled with over 300 of goop's picks, from classic favorites to new finds in all categories from food & drink to shopping, culture, beauty, kids and beyond. More cities will be coming soon and will be available to buy via in-app purchase, so your can continue to build you collection.

We have also added some new features to the app including swipe navigation to help you browse content with ease, and a brand new category, ‘new openings’, introducing you to the most noteworthy newcomers in each city.

To access our Los Angeles guide:

  • If you already own the goop City Guides app:
Run the latest app update (v1.3) on your device via the App Store or within iTunes. This will refresh your New York and London guides and activate Los Angeles (for free!) on your in-app bookshelf.
  • Or to start your goop City Guides collection:
Click here to purchase the goop City Guides app in the App Store. All three cities will automatically download to your in-app bookshelf with your purchase.

Note: You will need 3G, 4G or WiFi connection to update and download, however we recommend you use WiFi for best performance.

For more information, see our App FAQ’s or view our page within the App Store on iTunes.

Hot Openings

Here are some LA restaurant openings we're excited about that are included in our App's recently added "New Openings" section.

bestia | downtown
2121 7th Pl.

We've already been hearing great things about this seasonal Italian that touts sustainability in everything from the décor (reclaimed materials) to the menu (local ingredients). With a traditional Italian menu in structure - from the antipasti to the pizzas, pastas, secondi, contorni and dolci - they make the cheese, mustard and more in-house, matching quality to taste. It gets busy, so best to reserve.

hinoki & the bird | century city
10 West Century Dr.

Hinoki is an inspired Asian departure from David Myers (of Comme Ça and the late Michelin-starred Sona). Inspired by the aromatic wood of Tokyo, the walls of this beautiful, organic looking restaurant (named after his favorite scent by Comme des Garçons) are lined with fragrant cedar and one of the most popular dishes, the black cod, is infused tableside with hinoki smoke. The drinks are by a mixologist from Milk & Honey and the rest of the Asian-inspired menu still incorporates the fresh, healthy Californian fare Myers is known for, including a raved about lobster roll and kale salad.

superba snack bar | venice
533 Rose Ave.

A 'post-modern pastaria' (in very Venice fashion.) Chef Jason Neroni, formerly of one of our classic faves Osteria La Buca, created an ambitious menu of Italian-influenced small plates including excellent handmade pastas and a heavy focus on seasonal vegetables that will make all the local vegans quite happy (think cauliflower T-bone). Also very cool - everything on the menu is under $20.

Holly Williams - "The Highway"

"The Highway"
by Holly Williams

This incredible record by singer-songwriter
Holly Williams is on repeat in my house.
Spot the guest vocalist in track 11.

Old Favorites

Here's a look at just a few of our stand-bys you'll find in our App's restaurant section.

café gratitude | hancock park
639 North Larchmont Blvd.

This place could only exist in California. With menu items listed by things you hopefully will become after eating here, including "I Am Grateful," and "I am Fortified," this café serves up really great vegan fare. They have a raw section on the menu (a highlight here is the tacos) and their bowls are particularly popular. This place gets mobbed during lunch but it's fun, airy and great place to dine al fresco. Oh, and they serve wine, for some vino with your vegan. Now a Venice location as well.

sushi katsu-ya | studio city
11680 Ventura Blvd.

Though there are now a few branches around the area, some fancier than this original in Studio City, go here for the real experience, and some of the best sushi in town. The baked crab hand roll and the spicy tuna on crispy rice are reason enough to go to California.

giorgio baldi| santa monica
114 West Channel Rd.

Giorgio’s is one of our constant favorites in LA. Giorgio's family is still behind the whole operation and it shows. The personal service, incredible Northern Italian food and pleasant, simple atmosphere has created a loyal clientele who swoon over the handmade ravioli, fresh Dover sole, delicious langoustine pasta and white truffles imported from Piedmont each fall, just to name a few.

Shoe Spotting at Magazine Shoot

Stylist's own.

Samples of forthcoming Balenciagas.

Wore these Manolos in a few pics and fell in love.

Beyond Food...

Here’s a sneak peak at favorites from some of the other categories we cover in our App.

heath ceramics | mid-city
7525 Beverly Blvd.

A true mid-century American potter, Heath has been producing beautiful modern and minimal tableware and tile since 1948. In addition to having permanent collections in NY's MoMA, their dinnerware is used in top restaurants such as Alice Waters' Chez Panisse, and we can see why. Extremely high-quality plates, bowls, cups and more are expertly designed, while still maintaining a hand-crafted feel.

just one eye | hollywood
7000 Romaine St.

Just One Eye is the most exciting addition to the LA fashion scene in a while. Opened by the fashion director of Maxfield, this boutique/showroom/gallery stocks exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces of clothing, art, jewelry, design and more with the goal of being an open and ongoing progressive space for curation, with the best names going in fashion. Launching Damien Hirst's $50,000 collaborated backpack with The Row was just the beginning, as they are all about curated artistic partnerships.

tracey cunningham, meche salon | beverly hills
8822 Burton Way

My colorist Tracey Cunnignham has just opened her very own salon with partner Neil Weisberg (formerly of Neil George Salon). If you can get to Tracey for color, you will not be disappointed. She's pricey, and attracts a lot of Hollywood types, but she really is a color genius.

the pikey | hollywood
7617 W Sunset Boulevard

Despite being a gastro-pub, The Pikey does really great cocktails in many different iterations, in this dark-wood-heavy, British-inspired space. The homey food is also great (menu by ex-Spotted Pig chef) and you shouldn't miss the Vinegar Chicken and Chips…it's amazing.
