Fall Recipe Savory Bread Pudding o 1/2 tsp dried oregano (if fresh double) o 1/2 tsp thyme o 1/4 cup white wine or water o 8 oz mushrooms sliced irregularly o 2 tbsp chives or green onion - minced o 1-2 medium yellow onions o 1 tbsp butter o 2 cups milk o 3 eggs beaten o 6-8 slices bread o 1 tbsp olive oil o 9x12 glass baking pan o 2 Cups mixed grated cheese such as: swiss, parmesan, jack, fontina or provolone Note: White bread will give a lighter & more souffle like texture. Use whole grain for a firmer, and more nutty taste. Slightly dry/stale bread works well. Cook onions in butter on medium heat. Crumble herbs into onions and cook until caramelized. Add a little white wine if pan gets dry. Add olive oil & mushrooms, stir, and coat in oil. Raise heat, stirring often. Remove from heat when cooked and add salt & pepper. Whisk the milk into beaten eggs and season with the fresh herbs /chives. Chop bread into rough cubes & butter a glass baking pan. Create a layer on the bottom using half the bread, Spoon mushrooms and onions over bread and sprinkle half the grated cheese. Evenly place the rest of the bread, and remaining cheese. Preheat oven 375°F. Evenly pour milk and egg mixture over the top layer. Cover with tin foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove cover and continue to bake for 10-15 minutes. Check to make sure eggs are cooked and cheese is melted, bake slightly longer if needed. Eat and enjoy! Yum :) Optional Ideas: Greens make a delicious addition, try wilted baby spinach or 1 head of ribboned chard. For a more Italian flavored theme, try adding olives, diced tomatoes, pesto, and chopped basil. Or for a southwest taste, used diced green chili's, canned tomatoes and black olives. Make mini individual servings using the same method but in a muffin tin instead to create individual portions. Use plenty of butter to grease the pan to avoid it sticking! - From Ingrid's Family Recipe Box Fall Tip: A great way to recycle and reuse your candle wax after you finish burning candles is to make them into new candles! Melt the wax down in your melting pot (assumes you purchased a DIY Candle Making Kit) following the guidelines you learned in our instructions. Usually the old wick will sink to the bottom and you can pour the clean wax off the top. Try using an old silicone ice cube tray as a mold and make wax pellets to be melted down later or use mason jars for new candles. You can combine similar scents and colors together, or mix and match to create new surprises and fun shades. Try pouring your candles into less conventional molds such sea shells, chipped tea cups or dried out orange peels. There are a lot of fun possibilities! Always keep fire safety in mind and never leave candles unattended, especially if using less conventional candle molds. Also, always use care when working with melted wax.
