Isabel Bornstein is a collage artist and abstract painter from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her creative journey began in a vibrant and artistic household--her mother is a writer/painter/illustrator, and her father is a designer and owner of an art gallery/design shop in Buenos Aires.

Before settling in Charleston, Isabel studied and lived all over, from Berlin to Buenos Aires and New York City. As a self-taught artist, Isabel uses the creative energy of the cities she's lived in to spark her imagination. She loves exploring new techniques and ideas to enrich her work. Sharing her artistic vision and connecting with others through art brings her joy and inspiration every day.

Hi! I’m Isabel (Isa) Bornstein. I’m from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and have lived in Charleston for eight years. I make analog collages and abstract paintings that are represented by The George Gallery in Downtown Charleston.

Do you feel that your art has influenced your personal fashion sense?

Making art every day has definitely made me gravitate toward more comfortable, feel-good clothing, especially after 2020 when I went full hermit.

We are quite literally obsessed with your artwork! How did you became a collage artist?

My father owns a design shop / art gallery in Buenos Aires, where I worked for a few years. He has an incredible eye and found these beautiful antique prints with which I made my first collages in 2011. At that point I realized it was something I wanted to continue doing and exploring.

What is a go-to piece in your wardrobe? Do you gravitate toward a certain color, pattern, style, fit, fabric, etc.?

I love the feel of natural fabrics and all things blue. My go-to is definitely an oversized button-down shirt. I find it to be the most versatile and timeless piece of clothing.

How would you describe your style in 3 words?

Simple, comfortable, ‘slightly’ eclectic.
