An assortment of lights in various spherical silhouettes, the Nelson Bubble Lamps add a touch of softness and luminosity to interiors. Designed by George Nelson in 1952, these elegant fixtures are fashioned from a sturdy, lightweight steel frame yet have a delicate, floating quality, whether in ceiling-hung, floor, table, or wall-mounted variations.
The molded plastic chairs are a flexible and comfortable seat with a variety of base options. Available in your choice of colors, which are permeated through the material so they remain vibrant even after years of hard use. The molded plastic seats are produced of ecologically friendly, recyclable polypropylene.
The Eames lounge chair and ottoman is considered one of the most significant and collectible furniture designs of the 20th century. The lounge and ottoman is a culmination of Charles and Ray Eames' efforts to create comfortable and handsome lounge seating using production techniques that combine technology and hand craftsmanship.
Charles and Ray Eames brought a sense of play to all their work. Throughout their careers, they designed a variety of whimsical toys and furniture for children, including this 1953 Hang It All®, for Tigrett Enterprise's Playhouse Division. More than just a conversation piece, the Hang-It-All holds nearly anything that slips over its hooks.
The Eames molded chair in both arm and side chair formats in fiberglass or plastic can be configured with a choice of wire, dowel leg, stacking, rocker, and 4-leg bases. An array of trim, finely tailored Hopsak fabrics designed by Alexander Girard, Herman Miller's Textile Director from 1952 to 1973, round out the collection of shell customization options, fully restoring the integrity of the original 1953 shell chair offerings.
The Bubble lamp sconce is constructed with a 2-inch-thick walnut mount and a brushed-nickel steel arm that extends approximately 14 inches. The Sconce arm has a swivel hinge and adjustable plug-in cord with a counterweight, allowing for height adjustment from left-to-right, and up-and-down, without having to change its position on the wall.
A result of work they had done for a 1949 exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Eames Desk Units and Storage Units reveal the "machine aesthetic" and Japanese influences important to the Eameses at the time. Long before "modularity" and "high tech" entered the language, Charles and Ray combined standardized parts in many ways to create practical furnishings that suit a variety of uses.
