Is this your brand on Milled? You can claim it.

Nowhere symbolises the rejuvenation of Germany more perfectly than Berlin, where ‘The Wall’ was torn down 30 years ago today.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Berlin – then and now
Exactly 30 years ago, the Berlin Wall fell and a divided city suddenly became free. This evening, there will be a spectacular commemoration by the Brandenburg Gate, and the eyes of the world will once again fall on what is now dubbed ‘the coolest city on the planet’. Yes, there are intriguing reminders of the Cold War around every corner, but there are also expansive parks, boat trips on the River Spree, plus myriad cultural diversions to enjoy. You can also experience Kaffeehäuser and Bierstuben on a grand scale, or stop for Currywurst on Potsdamer Platz, once a drab wasteland bisected by the Wall but today a potent symbol of the city’s remarkable renewal.
The Legacy of Leipzig
In September 1989, Leipzig was literally crumbling to pieces. But as the epicentre of the Peaceful Revolution (the ‘Monday Demonstrations’ took place here between late-September and mid-December that year), its transformation has been astonishing, blending cultural attractions with fine architecture and inviting green spaces. “Don’t miss the Museum in der Runden Ecke, former HQ of the Stasi”, recommends Inntravel’s Alison Temple. “It was occupied by demonstrators to prevent all the files from being destroyed, and remains a chilling experience straight out of a Le Carré novel.”

A Berlin break to remember

As Inntravel’s I.T. Manager, Martin Pascoe oversees one of the vital ‘backroom’ functions which allow our holidays to operate so seamlessly. But he’s also a keen traveller, and has an interest in history that saw him spend a few days in Berlin recently, on the run-up to today’s ‘Fall of the Wall’ commemoration. We asked him to download a few memories, and to share his thoughts on why it’s such a fantastic city to visit.
