Do you remember getting the jitters when a new school year rolled around?

Whether you were filled with excitement or felt downright uneasy, every parent can recall what the back-to-school butterflies felt like. If your children are starting to feel the blues right about now, remind them that going back to school doesn't have to be a drag!

Start preparing now to make those first weeks easier for your kids – and yourself!

Our team is sharing useful advice for transitioning from summer to school. Brace your little ones for the year ahead with these tips from a teacher's point of view:

Make it a topic of frequent conversation. Remind your kids that back to school fears and anxieties are very common and many children have similar experiences before the first day starts. Be positive and encouraging when talking about school, because children look to their parents during times of uncertainty. If they see their parent confident and excited about school, it will help them relax.

Take a field trip to the school. During the weekend or even after dinner, bring your family and make an adventure out of seeing the new school. Even if the school isn’t “new” to your children, their classes and play area might be different. Parents should try to bring their kids to the school's playground to play once or twice before school starts. This will help them see that school is fun and show them what their school day will be like.

Initiate a playdate to help kids reconnect. Many parents attend an open house or meeting before school is in session. Strike up a conversation with other parents and schedule a playdate. Getting reacquainted with old friends or setting aside some time to meet new classmates can help ease a lot of their anxiety. These fun times with soon-to-be peers will help that first new day when they see familiar faces.

Both parents and teachers want back-to-school to be one of the most exciting times of the year for kids. Let's encourage our children to recognize the gift of education in their lives and help create their love of learning.

Make homework manageable with our Busy Parents’ GUIDE to Homework!

As always, thank you for reading along, as we work together in raising the next generation of amazing kids!
