Maxwell, American AuthorFrom the time your child wakes up until the time they go to sleep at night, there are countless opportunities for learning and growing. In classrooms across the U.S., Kiddie Academy teachers are making a positive difference in the lives of children, helping educate and inspire the next generation of amazing kids by introducing monthly character concepts.Throughout the month of July, Kiddie Academy’s character education program focuses on the value of Pride through lively classroom discussions of what pride means, the feelings it evokes and how to share this with others.Continue the Conversation at Home!What is Pride? We feel personal satisfaction after we achieve a goal or receive recognition for a job well done. Working hard to achieve goals generates feelings of confidence and self-esteem.We often feel pleasure in belonging to a group or gratified as part of a group doing good work. For example, we feel proud to be Americans and many people feel proud of their school. We show our pride by displaying symbols, such as flags, or wearing clothing that shows our school spirit.Showing Pride EverydayYou can foster feelings of pride by talking to your child about their accomplishments. Encourage your child to share their accomplishments with you and your family to enjoy. Display certificates for good deeds for all to see. Be sure to give high fives for hard work and plenty of hugs for effort!Try this activity at home! Select a book relating to pride. Find times during the story to ask your child questions relating to pride.Here are a few examples:What value is the character practicing?How is the character displaying pride?How do you think the character is feeling?What would make the character feel better?What should the character do to be more proud?Have you ever felt like the character when she was in that situation?
