Fruited Sourdough Sandwich Bread

Did you know that August is National Sandwich Month? I can't think of a better time of year for it. Between the end-of-summer road trips and vacations, and the fast-approaching days of lunch boxes and desk lunches, sandwiches are an important staple of a busy family's meal prep toolkit. And what makes a sandwich really shine? Homemade bread, of course!

Sandwich bread can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. For those of you newer to yeast baking, our classic white or 100% whole wheat sandwich breads are both excellent options. They're soft, moist, fine-grained, and mildly flavored: perfect for PB&Js, ham and cheeses, or egg salads (just to name a few of my favorites). On the other end of the flavor spectrum is this sandwich rye bread. Flavored with caraway and mustard seeds as well as dill pickle juice, it's perfect for pastrami, corned beef, Reuben, or Rachel sandwiches.

If you're ready to up your sandwich bread-making game, sourdough can help! This apple and raisin-studded sourdough loaf (above) is one I developed a long time ago, and it's still my go-to for grilled cheese sandwiches. Or try our multigrain sourdough bread for more of a project. It's 100% naturally leavened, and takes a couple of days, but you'll be rewarded with 2 loaves for wholesome, tasty sandwiches. And that, my friends, is what making your own sandwich bread is all about!
