At around 6 PM on Monday evening, three people showed up in a stolen vehicle at Gregory Ravara’s residence.
They came with a crowbar and a gun (which later on turned out to be a replica gun).
They tried breaking into Ravara's home at multiple entry points, but to no avail. So at least one of them tried scaling the fence in the backyard.
There, one of the burglars is met by Ravara and is shot.
One accomplice flees, but Ravara detains a third accomplice at gunpoint until police arrive.
The police take Mr. Ravara into custody and ask him for a statement.
Without an attorney present, he did the right thing…
He exercised his right to remain silent.
(Talk to a defense attorney, and they’ll tell you: whatever you say to police will ONLY be used against you by the D.A. Which is why you NEVER give a statement without proper legal representation.)
As a result of his refusal, he is arrested for “suspected murder” and thrown in jail WITHOUT BAIL!
Think about it:
- This is a lone, 77-year-old man against 3 much younger, stronger criminals (that’s a disparity of force by anyone’s standards.)
- And these 3 crooks will stop at nothing to break into his home…
-
And they are carrying a crowbar and replica gun (but how could Ravara have known that?)
And the police arrest him for suspected murder!?
Given the facts, why wouldn’t authorities presume that Ravara shot in self-defense…
At least, until evidence showed otherwise?
Since when did exercising your Constitutional rights become a crime?
Here’s a guy who did everything right…
He had a plan to defend himself, and he executed that plan. But it doesn’t appear that he had a plan to face the justice system.
How differently would things have gone if he was a USCCA Member?
Who didn’t just know how to defend himself, but who would also have been educated on the laws in his state as to the appropriate use of force…
And who would have been able to take full advantage of the self-defense liability insurance⁰ that’s an automatic benefit of membership…
How had he called the Critical Response Team here at Delta Defense, he could get a pro-2A attorney involved immediately…
And how, if the State of California decided to press charges against him, he would not only have the best defense money can buy…
But he wouldn’t have to pay a dime for that defense.
(Over $1,000,000 in legal and defense fees have been paid out on behalf of USCCA members).
Friend, even if you are not a member of the USCCA, I urge you to find your own self-defense liability insurance.
And, if you decide to become a member, I think you’ll find that the insurance available to you sets the gold standard.
After all, you’re only fully prepared when you’re prepared for the before, during, and after a self-defense incident.
And USCCA prepares you for all three.
Consider joining over 860,000 other Americans prepared for the before, during, and after of a self-defense incident…
