A journey into Italian excellence

We filmed for you how the best Italian fabrics are made at Reda wool mill, which has kindly opened the doors of its factory in Croce Mosso, in the province of Biella, where the best fabrics in the world have been manufactured since the beginning of the 19th century.

Combing

During combing, the textile fibers are parallelized, eliminating those that are too short, those with a larger diameter and any impurities. In fact, in this phase, through the use of real combs that prepare the fibers for spinning, a ribbon called tops is created.

Spinning

With spinning, the tops obtained by combing are gradually thinned, so as to transform first into a roving and then into thread. Through this process, the fibers are also twisted, so as to create a firm and resistant yarn.

Warping

During the warping, the yarn is placed on a roller called beam, in order to create the warp of the height of the fabric. The beam thus prepared will be loaded onto the loom to proceed with the next phase.

Weaving

Once the beam has been loaded onto a loom, we proceed with the actual weaving. In fact, the weft threads are woven perpendicularly to the warp threads to create the fabric.

Finishing

The term finishing means to group all the operations that are done on the raw fabric, from dyeing to ennobling. It is at this stage that the treatments are performed which give the fabric any performance characteristics, from natural stretch to easy iron.
