Golden State Killer pleads guilty to crimes that terrorized California

A former police officer who killed more than a dozen people in a series of rapes and home invasions up and down California has pleaded guilty. Dubbed the Golden State Killer, Joseph James DeAngelo Jr. has made the plea as part of a deal with prosecutors that will spare him the death penalty but result in his spending the rest of his life in prison.

The 74-year-old DeAngelo, who terrorized California in the 1970s and '80s, will be sentenced in August.
