'I was in shock': California rents are spiking - and in places you might not expect

California rents are spiking again as the pandemic eases, bringing sticker shock and increases in some communities you might not expect.

At the height of the pandemic, as people relocated from major cities, rental prices dipped everywhere. The rental market stayed depressed for about a year before experiencing a steep rise around August or September 2021, experts said.
