Wellness Wednesdays

Green Goddess Smoothie

Welcome to Gut Harmony where each #WellnessWednesday we will be sharing some tips around food and recipe ideas to help heal your gut and bring you back into harmony from the inside out.

When we were looking at a good morning routine last week it got me thinking about how important hydration really is.

team of scientists in the UK found that 90 minutes of sweating without replenishing lost fluids shrinks the brain as much as a year of aging.  The good news is that staying adequately hydrated can be easy and fun!

Eat Your Water

You can eat your water with fruits, veggies and salads. Watermelon and cucumber are great and coconut water is my secret to staying hydrated all year round.

Coconut water has been shown to help with headaches, blood sugar balance and it’s great for aging. One of the first indicators or dehydration is your skin. I know my body is dehydrated when my fine lines are more pronounced!

Green Goddess Smoothie

As we are chatting about hydration, I thought we'd make one of my favorite smoothies this week. My green smoothies are an integral part of my wellness plan.

As most of us are full of empty calories and nutrient poor, a green goddess smoothie is quick and versatile. You can also add in extras like spirulina and maca powders that will boost your daily nutrients too. Here's my favorite recipe:

Ingredients (3-4 servings)

  • Small handful of kale and spinach

  • 1 inch of cucumber

  • 1 broccoli floret

  • Handful of frozen wild blueberries

  • 1 frozen banana

  • Half an avocado (makes it creamy)

  • Tablespoon of coconut oil

  • Fill to the line with coconut water

Combine all of the ingredients in your favorite blender, making sure to fill to the max liquid line of your blender with coconut water for max hydration!

Blend well, pour into your favorite to-go cup and enjoy the benefits of your smoothie the whole day through!

Optional Boosters:

1 spoon of maca powder or spirulina powder

1 spoon of Leaky Gut Repair, Serrapeptase or Candida Complex

Note. The spirulina changes taste and texture but if you love greens you are good to go!
