How to fix a high-abandonment form field

Cart and form abandonment go hand-in-hand and are both frustrating issues to manage. But what can you do when you spot a high-abandonment field inside Form Analytics?

Start by asking why people are abandoning one field more than others:

- You're asking for information they deem too personal or unnecessary for the transaction
- The field is last and they felt like your form was too long
- They're unsure what you're asking for
- The field is a UX nightmare (think date picker on mobile)
Then, come up with a strategy:

- Remove the field if it's not completely necessary at that point in the process or can be obtained later
- Change your placeholder text to make it more intuitive
- Test field order or break the form into more than one step

No matter what steps you take, keep an eye on your Form Analytics (found inside Heatmaps), including the abandonment report but also any impact on other metrics like Field Time or Time to Complete.
