Resolve to Start the Year Right By Suzanne Dixon, MPH, MS, RD
Reinvent Your Nutrition and Exercise Routines.
Heavy holiday eating and stress inspire many people to commit to ambitious New Year’s resolutions. Lose weight, eat better, and exercise regularly usually top the list, but only 5 to 10% of folks keep it up beyond a month or two.
Drink to Your Health with Raw Green Smoothies By Jane Lininger, DC
For Best Benefits, Get Your Nutrient Blast Every Day.
We all know that we should eat more leafy greens, right? But why? Leafy greens are vitamin- and mineral-dense, do not contain much starch, and have great fiber. Leafy green vegetables are rich in many nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin K, iron, and calcium.
Sleep restriction could be one of the environmental factors that contribute to the obesity epidemic.
Skimping on sleep can lead to excess eating and might promote obesity, reports a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Maybe being awake longer gives us more time to eat, or perhaps it has to do with hormones; sleep restriction leads to increases in hunger hormones and decreases in those that make us feel full.
Demystifying Detox Programs By Suzanne Dixon, MPH, MS, RD
There is no official definition, but the idea is to cleanse the body of damaging substances, including air and water pollutants, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, and other industrial and agricultural chemicals.
Detoxification programs are based on the idea that the body functions poorly when harmful substances build up in the body. Many attribute a wide range of symptoms, from fatigue and headaches to allergies, sinus problems, bloating, weight gain, and dull skin and hair, to toxin exposure and build up.
1 cup berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)

Featured Recipe: Detox Bath
There are almost as many ways to detox heavy metals, pesticides and other chemicals from your body as there are poisons themselves. Use this gentle, inexpensive recipe to mix your own detoxing bath salt and soak away aches, pains and toxins.
Fill the tub with comfortably warm water -- not too hot because it can dry your skin and make you feel tired. Add the ingredients. Soak in the tub for no more than 10 minutes at first until you get used to the effect that the detox has on your system. Increase your bath time slowly. Take as many baths as you like; however, it's best to start out with no more than twice a week until you're used to it.
Avoid taking hot baths with detoxing agents if you suffer from diabetes, hypertension or heart disease. Consult your healthcare practitioner before doing any form of detox.
