What we’re carrying

(today and every day)

– The Runaway

Since this Sunday Paper is issue 007, we thought it appropriate to pay homage to the world’s most glamorous spy by doing a spotlight on the Métier piece we believe would undoubtedly be the hero in Mr Bond’s luggage collection; The Runaway.

Designed with the globetrotting multitasker in mind, it effortlessly keeps all your essentials in order whilst leaving more time for its owner to do what they do best, such as catching international criminals or simply going on a productive and well-organised business trip.

The Runaway is also the epitome of the modularity which is at the heart of Métier’s design philosophy, as it can be worn on its own as a portfolio or seamlessly clip into most of our larger bags when you want to make a smooth transition from the office to the gym or a weekend away.

If Mr Bond, or perhaps Q, is intercepting this message, please note that you can click here to get in touch with our team and designer Melissa Morris to discuss any customisation or bespoke features you might want to add to this or any other piece in our collection.

A stylish customer recently visited us in our Mayfair store on South Audley Street. This gorgeous Aston Martin DB5 is a firm favourite with Mr Bond and has been featured in both Goldfinger and Skyfall. Like a carefully crafted Métier piece, it proves that investing in lasting luxury is always a good idea...

What We’re Sipping

Like Ian Fleming, our favourite place to enjoy a perfect martini is at Duke’s Bar in London. Nestled down a secret alleyway in the historic St James’s district, this place is quintessentially English yet confidently cosmopolitan, much like Mr Bond himself. During lockdown, Duke’s legendary head bartender Alessandro Palazzi generously posted several charming and highly instructive videos for his thirsty admirers so we could all attempt to make some of his great cocktails at home. The Tiger Tanaka, named after the Japanese Secret Service Chief in You Only Live Twice, is a firm favourite of ours. Infused with ginger and orange peel, it is the perfect way to take the edge off after a long day of fighting the good fight. Discover how to make yours.

What We’re Reading

What We’re Reading

After having won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017, Kazuo Ishiguro intended to take on a new challenge, namely writing a book for children. But when running the idea past his daughter, fellow author Naomi Ishiguro, she deemed the subject matter a bit too dark for young readers and advised him to develop this book-project for his huge group of devoted grownup fans instead. About a month ago, the brilliant Klara and The Sun was published to great critical and public acclaim so her editorial advise was clearly spot on.

Ishiguro has ingeniously chosen to have the novel narrated by an ‘Artificial Friend’, a sort of AI companion for children, and in the masterful slow-reveal style for which he is known, an uncanny and sometimes dystopian story about a futuristic American society is unfolded.

Whilst doing so, the author makes us confront fundamental questions about science, faith, the human (and sometimes non-human) heart and what it means to love and be loved.
