Liesel is a labor and delivery nurse and the founder of Mommy Labor Nurse. Liesel has long believed that knowledge is the key to empowering women to give birth without fear and with total confidence. Since starting Mommy Labor Nurse in 2018, and with the launch of her online birth classes in 2019, she has been able to do that for so many more women than she ever could in her role as a bedside L&D nurse alone. To date over 30k women have completed a Mommy Labor Nurse birth class and had an even better birth.

What's your favorite part about being in our Facebook Group?

Being able to uplift others and having an amazing group that helps uplift me when I need it. It’s an amazing feeling to feel heard and truly understood by your peers who actually comprehend exactly what you’re going through.

If you could share one tip to new moms, what would you say?

You’re going to have to make a lot of sacrifices but that doesn’t mean you have to completely change who you are. Hold on to at least one thing you enjoyed doing before baby to help you stay connected or reconnect with yourself. It will help keep you grounded.

What's something you're excited about?

I’m excited about my future. It’s been hard but I’ve been on my own journey to rediscovery and it’s amazing, beautiful, and scary all at once. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

4 Health Benefits of Breastfeeding for Nursing Parents

Breastfeeding comes with a range of health benefits for babies. According to CDC, breast milk is the best source of nutrition for most infants and lowers the risk for asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, SIDS, and ear infections.

But breastfeeding isn’t just good for your little one. Studies have shown that it can lower the nursing parent's risk of certain diseases and health conditions. And now new research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association shows that breastfeeding may also decrease the likelihood of heart disease and stroke.

How to Talk to Your Kids About the War in Ukraine

It might be tempting to just ignore the subject and hope that your child won’t hear much about it, but that’s probably not the best approach, says Nakia Scott, MD, ABIHM. Most kids have access to social media, will hear about the events from their friends, or will overhear the news on TV, says Dr. Scott.

Having a safe adult to help them process this all is key. “It can be very frightening to children to hear about stories of terror and war without understanding context,” Dr. Scott explains.
