Hey, Mama! Does your baby currently rely on formula milk?
According to this article, stores are running out of baby formula due to a combination of short and long-term problems hitting the biggest formula milk brands.
This affects millions of babies in the US who rely on formula milk.
Here are some resources that can help you get formula:
1. Baby Formula Exchange Website by Shawn Johnson
Shawn Johnson East created a website with her husband Andrew East to help parents struggling to find baby formula.
BabyFormulaExchange.com is free to use and allows parents to post what type of formula they have that they aren’t using, or what type of formula they need. Parents can then ship unopened, not expired formula to people who need it.
2. New Moms - Breastfeeding & More Support Group by Mommy Knows Best (Facebook Group)
Mommy Knows Best has a Facebook support group for moms where all moms from all over the world (but most members are from the US) exchange conversations about motherhood, pregnancy, breastfeeding, formula feeding, and more.
Recently, some members shared their experiences with the current formula shortage and many moms replied with their tips and other resources to help other mamas. Here are some of the screenshots from the group:
Mallory, aka The Formula Mom, has lots of tips for moms all about formula milk - from milk reviews and comparisons, tools, the latest news on formula milk, and other helpful resources. She also has a Formula Finder tool on her website!
Here are other tips to deal with the formula shortage:
1. Talk to your doctor about the situation. They might have cans of formula available or they can ask the manufacturer for specific formula.
2. Shop from different stores. Try looking for other stores that you have not visited before, like small shops, pharmacies, or baby grocery stores.
3. Check online shops if they have the formula milk you are looking for.
4. Switch to an available formula in the meantime. This is safe for most babies but if you have doubts, ask your pediatrician first.
5. Connect with other moms. You may ask other moms if they have the formula you are using that they don't need anymore. The Baby Formula Exchange mentioned above is very helpful for this. You can also join online mom groups to ask.
