The fight for access to the ballot box continues...

Dear MoveOn member,

We’ve recently lost two American heroes: Congressman John Lewis and the Rev. C.T. Vivian. These two men dedicated their lives to making the promise of America a reality for those of us who had been left out. Their work advanced the struggle for Black liberation and led to voting rights for Black and other people of color.

Now in 2020, as in the '60s, equal access to the ballot box is under attack and we are fighting to ensure that every American can vote.

Last week, we partnered with Amplifier to launch "Your Vote Is Power," a campaign to drive voter registrations and turn out young voters and people of color this November. We said, “If your vote held no power, no one would try to silence you.”

It’s been a little over two months since the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and people continue to take to the streets to demand an end to police brutality and racist violence. We’ve seen some progress: School districts are ending contracts that put police in schools, Confederate monuments are coming down, and for the first time, cities and municipalities are seriously debating about defunding the police and reinvesting that money into needed community resources like schools, housing, and healthcare. This shows how powerful we are when we all come together and make our voices heard.

As Rep. Lewis wrote in an opinion piece published on the day of his funeral:1

"Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble. Voting and participating in the democratic process are key. The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it."

This year's elections are the most important of our lifetimes, from the presidency to the local school board. It’s imperative that we the people have our voices heard. We must use the power of our vote to bring about the lasting change we seek. We must cause "good trouble."

This sticker is the second in a series of seven. Follow along to collect all seven and for more on MoveOn’s massive cultural program to inspire and turn out young voters and people of color.

Thanks for all you do.
