It's time for summer writing!
 
Rise and shine, campers!

Welcome to Mrs Wordsmith’s Summer Camp, a two-month, weekly email series full of writing and vocabulary activities that celebrate words.

This week:
Story Settings
 
 
Get your writers’ thinking caps on and your imaginations ready…
 
 
A setting is where a story takes place. It gives the reader an idea of what to expect from the story and its characters. Is your story set on a spaceship, or at the bottom of the sea? Perhaps your characters are in a jungle full of wild animals, or maybe they’ve snuck into your garden!

Think about where your story is set and write down some details about it. For a little inspiration, download the settings vocabulary packet for your age group:
 
 
 
 
 
Share your creativity!
Draw a postcard of your setting using some of the words from the vocabulary packet. Share it with us on social media and we’ll pick one to feature in next week’s summer camp newsletter. The winner will also get our How to Write a Story printable for free!

Continue the story...
Let’s all write a (very short) story together. Each week until the end of the summer, we’ll add a little more to the story!

We’ll kick off our tale with an opening about our beloved giraffe:
Shang High had never seen a place like this before.
What do you think should come next?

Write 1-2 sentences about where you think Shang High might be and send it to [email protected]. Next week, we’ll continue the story with one of your submissions!
