Born in 1519, Jacopo Tintoretto would grow up to become one of Italy’s most influential painters of the era. As a celebration of his 500th birthday, journey through his amazing body of work in the exhibition, “Tintoretto: Artist of Renaissance Venice,” on view at Washington’s National Gallery of Art until 7 July 2019.
Signifying the first retrospective of the artist’s work in the United States, this exhibition offers North American audiences unprecedented access to roughly 50 works by the Venetian master that showcase the entirety of his professional career. Through the included paintings and works on paper, visitors can come to realize the brilliance of Tintoretto’s approach and his rightful place alongside colleagues like Titian and Paolo Veronese as one of Venice’s most impactful artists of the sixteenth century.
