Sailing like it's 1968
Can you imagine waving farewell to your family and friends and racing non-stop on your own for 200 days around the world with no outside assistance or electronic support – no way of communicating with the world? Just occasionally in this modern world of constant connectivity it might sound like bliss!
North Sails Performance Ambassador Damien Guillou from Team PRB, is gearing up to do just that by taking on the phenomenal challenge of The Golden Globe Race 2022. Participating in the race has forced Guillou back to school. No electronic devices mean no satellite navigation – a crucial tool of the modern ocean racer (or city driver!). Guillou has had to study traditional navigation methods and will need to rely on his skill with a sextant and paper charts to plot his course from the race start at Les Sables-d’Olonne, France, via the five great capes and return to Les Sables-d’Olonne – a whopping 30,000 miles.
Damien Guillou
Guillou is an accomplished modern racer – he started as an Olympic sailor, has participated in the Solitaire du Figaro seven times and completed multiple transatlantic races. He joins the start line as one of the race favourites.
We’re proud that Guillou has chosen to wear North Sails Performance on this ultimate kit test.

Starting on 4th September, you can track Guillou’s progress around the world wearing North Sails Collection at https://goldengloberace.com.
