OUR DAILY CANDY DIARIES
Last week our office came to a bit of a halt when we learned that DailyCandy would soon be shutting its doors. A zillion small business owners could tell you the same story we could, about the orders (and adrenaline) that started pouring in the moment DC sent out an email about us. But the truth is, our debt to them goes back much further than that first write-up—because DailyCandy is largely responsible for teaching us (and so many others) about the thrill of discovery and the excitement that comes with feeling like you’re one of the first to support a young designer—or a chef, or a musician. And if we’d never known about that particular brand of magic—and its power to change the way we shop, eat, and play—we might never have started Of a Kind. So thanks for paving the way, DailyCandy—you taught us to be early adopters before we even had the terminology for it. —claire
Realizing I’ve kept a diary consistently for almost four years now, thanks to Ohlife, which makes it as simple as replying to a daily email asking how your day was.
Carrying tins of Sweetriot nibs with me at all times so I can calm chocolate emergencies with efficiency (and minimal sugar).
Hiding my stash of Le Pens from all the vultures in the office who also know what a joy they are to write with.
Celebrating grapefruit season with this handy trick for extracting the flesh—perfect for desserts, dressings, or, my personal favorite, mix-ins for yogurt and granola.
Going to my first-ever Brooklyn Nets game and walking away a fan after witnessing some seriously charming traditions like Mr. Whammy and the crazily talented Brooklyn Nets Kids. (Their win over the Timberwolves didn’t hurt either.)
