Baggio prepared two kinds of chuchitos to offer at the ofrenda — one savory and one sweet so that everyone’s preferences are covered. You can make them however you like by following the recipe below!

TO DO Soak corn husk in warm water for 20 minutes. Once soaked, tear one husk into thin strips to use as ties. For banana leaves, heat on the stove or microwave for a few seconds until soft and pliable. Cut into large squares. Mix together the masa harina, baking powder, oil, salt, and sweet or savory additions in a bowl into a thick paste. Repeat this step for each chuchito flavor. Use a spoon to add the masa in the middle of the corn husk or banana leaf. If using corn husk, fold the pointed end towards the top, and pinch the two ends together, securing with the thin strips prepared earlier. If using banana leaves, fold in both sides towards the middle, overlapping once more. Heat a generous amount of water to your Always Pan. Add chuchitos to steamer in a circle, ensuring each one stands slightly and does not lay on its side. Cover and steam for about 30 minutes. You may check the consistency with a fork, similar to baked goods. They should be pillowy and release from the leaf very easily. Remove from the leaf and top with salsa, cheese, and/or cream.
